When you think of a major pop culture convention, you imagine sprawling halls, incredible cosplay, and electric energy. At the recent Dream Con in Texas, all of that was true—but for performer and creator Ameena Green, it was also the place she found a community that felt like home. Stepping beyond her usual roles, Green co-hosted a powerful panel on diversity in media, proving that her voice is as impactful as her performances.
An Unexpected Headliner
While Green wasn’t officially billed as a feature, you wouldn’t have known it from the crowd. According to her representative, her presence created a massive buzz on the convention floor.
“Ameena is ready for anything, and Dream Con is a terrific case in point,” her rep shared. “The lines for fans to meet her were some of the longest on the floor. And when it came time to deliver as a panelist, Ameena enjoyed every minute of the experience. We would love to have her invited to more events.”
This massive turnout speaks volumes, showing that Green’s fanbase extends deep into the vibrant world of anime, gaming, and “Blerd” (Black nerd) culture—a perfect fit for Dream Con, which stands as the largest Black-owned comic con in the United States.
A Panel Packed with Power Players
Green didn’t just meet fans; she took the stage to discuss a topic she’s deeply passionate about: representation. She joined an all-star lineup for a panel on diversity and inclusivity in the entertainment industry. The conversation was elevated by the presence of her co-panelists: Hilton G. George, the founder and CEO of Blerdcon; TJ Sterling, CEO of the trailblazing RAE Comics; and Kyle Dargan, a professor and editor for Janelle Monáe’s Wondaland Arts Society.
Together, they tackled the importance of creating space for diverse voices and stories. For Green, who proudly identifies as “Blasian,” the discussion was personal. She also held a Q&A session, offering sharp, practical advice to up-and-coming creators on how to build their own unique brands in a crowded digital world.
“I Just Feel at Home Here”
For Green, the experience was more than just a professional appearance; it was a genuine connection. She found herself surrounded by people who shared her passions, making the massive event feel intimate and welcoming.
“I’m extremely happy I attended Dream Con this year,” Green reflected. “I met so many amazing people, hung out with my favorite peeps, and I’m thrilled to see I have such a huge fan base that’s just as nerdy as me. Anime fans are some of the most open and creative people out there. This culture resonates with me in ways that are hard to explain—I just feel at home here.”
This passion for pop culture isn’t new. In December 2024, Green launched her own publication, A3 Magajin, a platform dedicated to her love for cosplay and all things nerdy. It’s a project that shows her commitment to building a brand that is authentically her, a trend many creators are embracing to forge deeper connections with their audience. She also gave a shoutout to Malik Daniels for documenting her entire convention journey in a series of vlogs.
As creators continue to break barriers and build their own platforms, Ameena Green’s time at Dream Con shows she’s not just part of the conversation—she’s helping to lead it.
